album info:
This EP is called "the hasty ep" because I composed and recorded it in a week, around school, work, and church responsibilities. It felt rather "hasty" at times, because I often had to rush through things, but I'm rather pleased with how it turned out. It was originally composed for a "History of the High Tech Centers" DVD Glendale Community College was putting together, and it needed to be completed in a week to be ready for the video. (I guess I did good, because Dale Gibson, a great video production instructor at GCC and the man in charge of the video project, kept telling everyone how good it was!) Once the music was done, I liked it enough that I decided to release it online. The song names come from the video segments they were originally intended for -- Groundbreaking ceremony, Construction of the HTCs, Dedication of the HTCs, and footage of the computer Labs themselves.

song info:
This song was intended as background for footage of the groundbreaking ceremony for the HTCs, so I tried to make it sentimental sounding. I think I succeeded :) I actually composed/recorded this one last, after I had some experience with how to quickly make music for video after making the other three songs. I also had decided that the simplest (and probably most fun) method at this point would be to use GarageBand, the sequencing/recording program that comes with every new Apple computer.

song info:
This was the first song I composed for the project, and it actually shows a little in the quality -- I was struggling with how to do a song under a time crunch, as well as how to make something that works as background for a video. My feelings about this are reflected in the song title. (In spite of my qualms, Dale was very happy with it and had no complaints.) I used a loop from the ACID Loop Library "Junkyard Rhythms" -- it seemed appropriate, since it was for footage of the HTCs being built, and there would be lots of "junk" around, in the form of metal and other building materials. I also slaved Ableton Live to ProTools and used Live's sound library to sequence the drum kit and the bass. Everything else came from my Korg, except for the xylophone, which came from the Yamaha.

song info:
This was the second song I composed for the project, and I had already learned a lot about how to do things well under the circumstances. With this one, I decided that I would try something simpler and more self-contained -- I would use GarageBand. It was the first one on this project I did this with, and I quickly discovered how great it is for working under a time crunch. Since the song was for the footage of the dedication ceremony, I was trying to make a sentimental-sounding song, and so I tried real hard to produce something real laid-back that sounded like electronic music artist analoq (aka A.P. Matthews). I'd like to think I succeeded :)

Again returning to GarageBand, I actually tried something a little more complicated than in "This Is What I Live For" -- I used a free plugin called MidiO (it can be found here) to route GarageBand's MIDI info to my MS2000B for the bass track. I composed this one third, for the footage of the computer labs themselves, and it seems to be the most popular of the four songs. It's a blast to play live, too.

album info:
Whew, it's about time this music got out there! I've had it all finished for a looong time. I have gone back and made little improvements here and there, where possible - I actually don't have access to all of the files used to make these songs anymore, which means I can't change some of them anymore! Anyway, the twelve (?) songs on this album were composed on a wide variety of software and equipment, including some stuff in the music lab at GCC. Many of them were for class assignments. These songs also cover a wide variety of styles, but they all have a very pop-ish feel (much like the hasty ep, although not quite as much), and most of them are very danceable. Together, they comprise my first full album, so I hope you like it!

This song is extreeemely simple...which is why it makes a good intro track. I originally wanted it to be longer, but really couldn't figure out what to do with it. I also tried having it fade directly into Running, but I eventually decided that wasn't a good idea. I used a few ACID loops on this one, and came up with a string part (via Symphonic Orchestra) that sounds like Super Metroid at times. Since this is an intro track, you can almost hear my voice dubbed over the music saying, "Hello. My name is KingTiger. I make electronic music, and it sounds like this..."

I made this song shortly after I bought Absynth and Symphonic Orchestra, and it's the results of my first bits of experimentation and fiddling with them. I also used a lot of ACID loops. Needless to say, I had a lot fun, and some of my best work is in this song. I envision someone going on a morning jog on this one, and finding himself in strange places and situations...

This is one of the first songs I ever made. It's one of the ones that I modified before releasing -- that crazy phase filter on the lead in the middle section? The one inspired by Simon Posford? Yeah that's new. So is all the Korg stuff. It was a good song already, but the little things I changed/added gave it the edge it needed. And yes the capital "A" at the end of the title is intended.

song info:
Was this the first song I ever made? I can't remember...I can't remember if it was before or after I took Electronic Music I at GCC. In any case, it's made almost entirely with ACID loops. The sequenced stuff was all done in ACID's MIDI editor, while I was on vacation at my grandparents' ranch. I named it "Identified" because I had just learned about finding your identity in Christ, and it seemed to fit. (The robot voices in the song aren't really saying anything...they just sound cool.)

This one is a remake of a song I did for Electronic Music I at GCC. The original was a lot slower, simpler, and amateur-ish. But, I liked the feel too much to just let it go...so a year later I remade it -- thus the title. Oh, and that weird glitchy part after the 2nd verse? It is a glitch. No matter how much I tried to fix it, DP just kept playing it wrong. So I went with it. :)

song info:
When I first started this song, I didn't have the Korg, so when I found out how to use Sound Forge to synthesize basic waveforms, I went nuts and made this song. That's a triangle wave at the beginning, and all throughout you'll hear sine waves and sawtooth waves. That's why it's called Back to the Basics -- I used lots of basic waveforms. I also used some standard techno settings -- 120 BPM in the key of A major. :) I later went back and redid the bass lines with my Korg and edited the daylights out of the drum loop in the middle section.

This song was done for an assignment in Electronic Music II. Everything in this song was done with Mach 5. It's the most "new age"-ish of my songs, and people keep commenting that the melody xylophone-ish thing sounds like ice cubes :)

song info:
Ah yes. Another song written with some rather "typical" techno settings: 120 BPM in the key of C minor. But...give it another listen and you'll see it's not quite so typical after all. I used as many acoustic-type instrument patches as I could (as opposed to synths), and it's in 5/4 time! (For all you non-musical types, that means there's an extra beat in there...and it was danged hard to get used to!)

This is another song I did for Electronic Music II. I used a patch based upon the 909 drum sequencer, which I love. This was the first song I actually multi-tracked in ProTools -- I soloed each patch in Digital Performer and recorded each one into its own track in ProTools -- so it was a bit of a new experience for me. I called it "A New Song" because when I started, I wanted to make something that sounded new and "fresh" -- different from what I had been making lately. I think I accomplished that :) (If you want to download this song without the crossfade to The King Returns, please click here.)

a loop from some ACID loop library I can't remember
song info:
This song is a direct continuation of A New Song, in a couple ways. First, it was the second song I tried multi-tracking on. Second, when I was making A New Song, I found a really neat chord progression that went well with its melody, and although I didn't use the same melody in this song, I did use that chord progression. Interestingly enough, this song had quite a few MIDI tracks in DP, and although they didn't all have something playing at once, the MIDI interface I was using had problems doing it all and kept glitching -- getting a solid recording was rather hard. The title comes from the fact that this is a rather upbeat, exciting song, and I can envision it going with some joyous event -- in this case, the return of Christ. This is another song that shows some of the experimentation I did with Symphonic Orchestra and Absynth. With this song, I envision some jungle natives somewhere dancing to some night-time ritual, and then, when the key changes, it's morning again and they're having a big celebration for something. This is one of my weirder songs, for sure, but it also has some of my best work in it. There are lots of chopped-up ACID loops to be found here, and even a little vocal snippet from yours truly. Can you find it?

Finally, the title track. I call it Perceptions of the Interior because it's like a musical representation of who I am, and various different things that have happened in my life. (When the song changes from minor to major? That represents when I found Christ.) I did some very detailed chopping with ACID loops in this one, and I really, really like the ending -- it sounds very "final."

My first remix! I did this one for a contest at ACIDPlanet.com -- this quickly became a trend, as I have since entered many of the contests there. You can kinda tell it was my first remix, as some of the stuff is rather amateurish. The remix title comes from the whole middle section, as it sounds rather "cavernous".

Although this is more of a cover or a remake, in video game remix circles this is known as a "ReMix." Another rather amateur-ish sounding track, I originally made it for Project Chaos over at OC Remix. It was rejected, first by the project leaders of Project Chaos, and then by OC Remix itself, where I later submitted it. Although I did some good work in this song, I understand why it was rejected. It's here just in case anyone might like it.

My second entry for an ACIDPlanet.com contest. This one I started about a month before the deadline, didn't touch it for 29 days, then crammed in 3 hours of work the night of the deadline. I submitted it 40 seconds after the deadline, and even though I sent a message to Rhys Fulber (the talent behind Conjure One), it was therefore not considered for the contest. Which reeeallly stunk. I'm not sure how well it would have done anyway, since there are some sloppy things in it as a result of the insane cramming.

The Echoing Green is an awesome synthpop artist, so when I found out that Joey (who basically is The Echoing Green) was hosting a remix contest for one of his new songs, I about freaked. I was pretty busy at the time, but I was determined not to pull another cramming stunt like I did with the Conjure one contest. So, I set aside most of time for the four days before the contest ended, and put this together. Although it did not win, I am very, very pleased with it. You can find this remix, along with several others, on the original forum discussion at echocentral.com.

I had sooo much fun with this one. I was rather disappointed with the remix of this tune that appeared on Project Chaos, especially since everything else was so good, so I eventually made my own remix! This, my second video game "ReMix," was also rejected over at OC Remix, although it did substantially better than my first one. I have since posted it over at VG Mix, where it has received good reviews and lots of downloads. (Oh, and let me tell you...those sound effect samples were not easy to get!)

This one was fun, and rather difficult. The original track was so abstract that coming up with creative ways to interpret it was tough, and I also did lots and lots of detailed effects and chopping. Oh yeah, I also synthesized a lot of the drums from scratch! Again, I am really pleased with this one, but it didn't win the contest over at ACIDPlanet.com.
